This is another story in the Full Metal Panic universe, set some years after the events with Sousuke and Kaname. The northern tribes of demons, monsters, ghosts, and spirits were eager to act, plotting to invade the southern lands and seize the world’s resources. The fallen Chen Dynasty’s leader, Chu Huaixi, led thousands of troops and established Tianchi Town in the Snowy Lake above the Fusu Great Wall. In exchange for assisting the Great Shang Dynasty in resisting the invasion of the four northern tribes, the descendants of the fallen Chen Dynasty were granted permission to thrive and multiply in Tianchi Town, and this tradition continues to this day.

Even though the war has already ended, the sky has always been full of fighter planes for Iono Akatsuki. But he never really cared why. He just went to school and carried on with his life. Akatsuki has always had better vision and body movements than the average human, but the most he got out of it was never losing a fist fight. His adopted brother, Seibu Tsubasa, who he met five years ago when they were both 9 years old and who has been like a real brother to him, on the other hand, is a genius who got his doctorate at the age of 9, and teaches Akatsuki’s class at the middle school.
But Akatsuki’s life changes when he learns about his Kigan or machine eyes, an ability only a handful of people in the world posses that allows the body to not have any limits. For example, one would be able to see at almost 360 degrees and process all the visual information available, while making decisions faster than an average human can even begin to imagine. In the world of Afro Samurai, it is said that the one who becomes "Number One", will rule the world, wielding powers akin to a god. However, the only rule in this world is that only the "Number Two" (also designated by a sacred headband) is allowed to fight the "Number One." Afro Samurai's father was the old Number One, until he was challenged by a gunman, "Justice" (who was then Number Two), who fought him in a duel to become the new Number One. At the time the gunman challenged his father, Afro had only been a child. The gunman severed his father's head right in front of the young Afro. Now an adult, Afro Samurai is the current Number Two and a master swordsman; he travels the road seeking revenge on Justice, the current Number One. Lengthy flashbacks interspersed throughout the story detail how Afro rose from frightened boy fleeing the death of his father, to master swordsman, and eventually to become the current "Number Two", while the story in the present deals with the adult Afro making his way to the mountain top keep of the "Number One" to duel Justice, while at the same time the mysterious cult known as the "Empty Seven Clan" sends various agents to kill Afro and take his Number Two headband

This necromancer turns out to be the owner of the system, and it’s all because of this system that he’s a corpse after dying. This system gives suicide missions with no regards of the host’s abilities, but Xing Ye finds this suicide system quite compatible with him now that he’s a corpse? “Hahaha, I’m already dead, what do I have to fear?”

Because whenever he deals with the supernatural, he gets the hiccups. But no matter, an endless stream of desperate people come to him troubled by what he calls allegories. Those are stories, usually urban legends, that one believes to be true and if one believes strong enough can cause them to become true. His first case involves "The Man Under The Bed." Can he stop this creepy man with an axe before he chops up kawaii Hiranuma Kanae? Why does Asou count his hiccups, and just who is that strange girl in his bathroom?
