The story is about a man who is a medicine seller. He hunts mononoke (demons) and kills them by using a sword. However, before unsheathing his sword he first needs to learn of the form (katachi), the truth behind the human tragedies (makoto) and the reason behind the evils (kotowari) that gave birth to it before killing the demon.

Six members of the occult circle will spend a few days at a ruined love hotel during their summer vacation. Upon arrival they meet two additional people who join them, but in the morning of the second day, a female member was found tied & naked. In addition, the exit was locked by someone and the building became a completely enclosed cage. Will this be a repeat of the 'kodoku' that happened 3 years ago?

Hirukowashi-hen is based on Higurashi Daybreak. The main characters are Keiichi Maebara and Rika Furude, and this story is set in a parallel world. One day, Rena accidentally swallows something in her mouth during her usual treasure hunting. According to Rika, the seal of the sacred "Fuwarazu Magatama" pairs were broken and Rena must have accidentally swallowed one of them. The magatama holds mysterious magical powers in which a person that has the red magatama will blindly fall in love with anyone with the white magatama.

Shishikura Shigure is an ordinary high school student, who is into gal games, figures, and late night anime. He tends to be pretty oblivious of most of his actual surroundings, particularly at school. Since his parents have gone overseas for work, his childhood friend Koyomi has taken charge of caring for him. One Wednesday, one of Koyomi's friends is missing, and she seems overly concerned. She explains to Shigure that one month ago, a student at their school threw herself in front of a train. On every Wednesday since then, a girl at their school has killed herself. She warns him not to get involved, but Shigure decides to look for Koyomi's friend.Shigure ends up at the scene of the crime, where he sees a darkly mysterious girl who claims she can peek into people's memories. This unused 70% brain capacity is known as "Night Head". The Kirihara brothers were abandoned by their parents because of their psychic powers. Since then they have lived in a laboratory within a barrier-protected forest. One day the barrier brakes and they manage to escape from the laboratory.

The dean is committed to studying the occult, while the students are zealous in their everyday schoolwork.One day, the dean passes away and his occult-hating daughter, Kumashiro Maya, visits the academy. There, she meets a self-proclaimed spoon-bending "time agent" from the year 2012, Uchida Fumiaki. As the two encounter various bizarre phenomena within the academy, the reason for Fumiaki's timeslip to 1999 becomes clear.
