The manga centers on a group of friends who are satisfied and complacent with their everyday lives. The friends include Tobio, a passive high schooler who makes it a rule not to hope too much; Maru, a scheming boy who gossips behind people's back; Isami, a gaudy student who likes girls and recently got a girlfriend with big breasts; and their senior Paisen (slang for senpai, or upperclassman), a 20-year old man who is rich and has long graduated from high school.

The girl, Tokiko Tsumura, was actually trying to slay the homunculus (a beast that can take the form of humans, but whose main source of food is people), but Kazuki got in her way. To revive Kazuki, Tokiko replaces his heart with a "kakugane," an alchemic device that allows him to summon a lance with which to fight the monsters. It turns out that Tokiko is a member of Renkin Kenshi (Alchemist Soldiers), an organization sworn to protect the world from the diabolical creatures. Soon, Kazuki joins Tokiko in her quest to terminate the sinister being that creates and controls the homunculus.

His despise for the matter is such, that he can quickly break up any girl if they show any interest in matters such as lucky charms or any kind of future reading.One day, while he was self pondering about his life while ruining a date on a whim, he is suddenly kissed by an elementary school girl go goes by the name "Ageha", stating that she will use him to "wipe out every ghost in the world". While the sex appeal of an elementary school kid kiss was not enough to turn Genji to her side, the fact that she "bought him" by paying a huge debt that he had adcquired seems to work quite efficiently.
