This volume consists of three short stories involving a different princess and a mysterious exorcist. All stories deal with a central theme of foregoing sorrow and the appreciation/affirmation of what one has in life:
The Golden Phoenix, The Silver Phoenix - A princess longs for a lost love and almost loses her life until a mysterious exorcist opens her heart and mind to the truth and to what has been right in front of her all along.
The Hime with the Flower Crown - A young princess learns with the help of a mysterious young boy that putting away childish things may ultimately lead to a fulfilling new world and to the fulfilment of her beloved father's wish.

Gi-Hyun encounters a talking chick one day. The talking chick, whose name is Bok, claims that Gi-Hyun is his master in their previous lives.Bok (The talking chick) has been reborn as a chicken in order to fullfil his duty which he failed in his previous life. His duty is to protect Gi-Hyun from the assassin who killed him in his previous life.And so, their ordeals begin.

During the fourth year of the Keiou Era (1868), the Sendai Domain tries to gather men to fight against the loyalist army, allowing even peasants to join their ranks.
Amidst the unrest, orphaned brothers Taichi and Souji are reduced to begging and unwilling to die on the streets, Taichi suggests joining the Samurai. While reluctant, Souji follows his older brother but their uneducated ignorance leads them to trouble with the bandits of the area.
They are saved by Hosoya Juudayu Naohide, Sendai Domain Shock Troops' Commanding Officer. But he says he will only take those that are able to rise up and fly by their own power from any situation. While on her journey she sees a man who goes flying through the air, and then disappears. Left amazed she travels in to town and is pulled in to a mountain guide shop. To her surprise, the man she saw flying through the air is now her guide. To HIS surprise, she is the spitting image of his former lover, Suzume.

Based on a popular otome game, Hakuouki follows Chizuru and the Shinsengumi in an alternate reality. Chizuru travels to Kyoto in search of her missing father but after being involved in an incident, ended up being taken in by the Shinsengumi where she meets the members including the famous Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soshi. Chizuru’s father was conducting government research for strengthening the Shinsengumi and developed the ochimizu. The ochimizu is a formula that gives demon like strength and regeneration effects but once taken, the user experiences extreme pain and eventually turns into a blood hungry monster.
In an attempt to defend Chizuru, Hijikata takes the ochimizu and although the situation was saved, he is now affected with the illness. Okita is also forced to take the formula when his terminal cancer prevents him from defending Chizuru and himself.
